Cheryl earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1983 and a Master of Science in nursing in 1991, both from the University of Alabama. She went on to earn a post-graduate certificate in midwifery from Shenandoah University in 2013, followed by a Doctor of Nursing Practice in advanced practice leadership from Chamberlain University in 2017. Cheryl is board-certified as a women’s health nurse practitioner by the National Certification Corporation and as a certified nurse-midwife by the American Midwifery Certification Board.

With a passion for serving women, Cheryl initially entered the nursing field to support mothers through their birth experiences. She has gained a wealth of experience since then, working as a women’s health nurse practitioner for over 20 years before engaging in full-scope midwifery care as well as leadership in improving care for women and babies.

Cheryl believes that when women are physically, emotionally and spiritually healthy, they are uniquely positioned to strengthen their families and communities. Her work, research and goals all focus on helping women achieve that potential during every stage of their lives. With a special interest in pregnancy and postpartum support, Cheryl also advocates for emotional support needed by women of all ages.

A Hampton Roads resident since 1995, Cheryl loves being able to spend time with family and friends either at the beach or in the mountains. She and her husband have two sons, two daughters-in-law and six grandchildren. Cheryl is very active in her church, especially in women’s ministry. She also enjoys dogs, long walks, nature and quilting.
