About Brianna Russell Saunders, PA-C

Brianna R. Saunders, PA-C, is a physician assistant who cares for patients with structural heart conditions such as heart valve disease, aortic valve stenosis, atrial fibrillation (AFib) and holes in the heart known as patent foramen ovale (PFO).  She also cares for patients undergoing minimally invasive, catheter-based procedures to repair or replace heart valves, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and MitraClip. In addition, she helps manage procedures to close holes in the heart and reduce stroke risk through left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO), commonly known as the Watchman device.

Brianna earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk and then a Master of Physician Assistant from Eastern Virginia Medical School, also in Norfolk. She is board certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

What drew Brianna to cardiology is the chance to make a real difference in her patients’ quality of life, especially through catheter-based treatments that often provide quick symptom relief. She has helped enroll patients in national and global clinical trials of new therapies for structural heart and coronary artery disease. Patients can expect to feel heard, receive thorough education and share in decisions about their care.

Raised in Hampton, Brianna enjoys living close to family and the beach. Married, she loves traveling and baking and volunteers at women’s shelters and halfway houses that support women returning to the community.
