About Ashutosh S. Naniwadekar, M.D.

Gastroenterology

Board certified by the American College of Gastroenterology and licensed in both Virginia and Ohio, Dr. Naniwadekar has experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of GI conditions. He is originally from Mumbai, India, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Mumbai and completed internships at Seth G.S. Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital. He later earned a Master of Science in pharmacology at the University of Kansas and completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Having completed two fellowship programs at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System—the first in nutrition and the second in gastroenterology & hepatology—Dr. Naniwadekar is actively involved in the American College of Gastroenterology and has published several research articles. He has contributed to more than 20 research publications and served on Riverside Gastroenterology’s Medical Quality of Patient Care Committee from 2013-2017.

He first decided to pursue gastroenterology because of the opportunity to leverage both diagnostic and cognitive skills. Whether performing a routine procedure like a colonoscopy or treating a patient suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease or GERD, Dr. Naniwadekar believes in taking the time to understand each patient’s unique fears, concerns and goals.

Dr. Naniwadekar is married and has one child. His favorite pastimes include reading and traveling.
