Pharmacy Residency

Our PGY1 residency program is split into core and elective rotations with highly qualified preceptors. Residents begin by developing competency in pharmacy operations, including Epic, Pyxis, IV admixtures, clinical services, ambulatory care services, and general inpatient pharmacy operations. After orientation the resident begins core rotations and independently staffing as part of the Pharmacy Practice rotation.

Throughout the year resident’s present formal lectures, in-services, prepare a major research project, participate in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) committee process, and present research at professional conferences. We aim train residents to not only become independent clinical pharmacists in a wide variety of practice settings, but to also develop a solid operational foundation capable of excelling in a multitude of pharmacist roles within the health-system.

Teaching and learning certificate

Riverside is partnered with the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy to offer a Teaching and Learning Certificate. Residents will have the option to enroll in the program. This program consists of:

  • Precepting pharmacy students
  • Development and delivery of didactic lectures
  • Live seminars
  • Journal clubs
  • Continuing education programs

Upon completion of the required elements, the resident is issued a program certificate at the conclusion of the residency year.

Sharing knowledge

Each resident will be able to work with and mentor students from regional schools of pharmacy during certain rotations. As a community teaching hospital, Riverside Regional Medical Center provides the resident with the opportunity to attend many Grand Rounds as well as educational programs shared with medical residents.
