Pharmacy Residency

Riverside began serving the Virginia Peninsula community in 1916. In 1963, Riverside moved to the present 72-acre location in Newport News on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard. A 450-bed facility, Riverside Regional Medical Center is the Virginia Peninsulas most comprehensive medical facility combining the most recent computerized medical technology with a healing environment. This acute care facility provides a regional cancer care center, the Peninsula regions only comprehensive stroke center, the areas only open-heart surgery program, the regions only Level II Trauma Center, and a cornerstone neurosciences program that includes the Chesapeake, Riverside and University of Virginia Radiosurgery Center.

The Pavilion, which opened in 2013 is a 250,000 sq. ft., $107 million, 3-story addition to Riverside Regional Medical Center. In the spring of 2018 an additional 2-stories were added to the Pavilion to help meet the healthcare demands of the area. This state of the art addition opened up an additional 144 private patient rooms at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Riverside Health System provides an innovative learning environment for residents enrolled in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency. Riverside Regional Medical Center is the largest of the system's six hospitals and houses the majority of experiences within the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program. Additional Riverside hospitals residents may visit on rotations throughout the year include:

Community teaching hospital

RRMC is a community teaching hospital with multiple established medical residency programs providing a unique interdisciplinary learning environment. RRMC hosts over 70 medical residents practicing in various specialty areas, allowing for frequent interaction on rotations. Pharmacy residents are incorporated into many of the medical resident teaching opportunities, including Grand Rounds, lunch and learns, and academic research day. Strong affiliations with pharmacy schools allow us to provide over 60 student rotations annually, and exposure to numerous journal club and student presentations.
