Heather Blair, PT
Heather Blair graduated from the University of MD at Baltimore in 1989. She has worked within the Riverside Health System for 22 years with experience in all levels of care, including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient therapy. Heather specializes in pelvic floor therapy, vestibular rehabilitation for balance, neurorehabilitation for post stroke and brain injury patients, utilization of Bioness L300 and aquatic therapy. Heather is also a STAR-Certified Practitioner in Cancer Rehabilitation. Heather's passion for quality patient care, coupled with her passion for her profession, result in functional and meaningful outcomes for her clients.
Amber Brennan, OTR/L
Amber Brennan graduated with a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University in 2010. Amber joined the Riverside team in 2012. Amber specializes in Lee Silverman BIG Therapy for patients with Parkinson's disease, neurorehabilitation for post stroke and brain injury patients, and utilizes the Bioness H200 device for functional E-Stim recovery. Amber takes pride in seeing her patients progress in therapy and achieve their functional goals and independence.
Patricia Calkins, LPTA
Patti Calkins has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from New Mexico State University and completed the Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant Program at Tidewater Community College in 2007. She joined the Riverside team in 2012. Patti has experience working with all age groups and ability levels and has a passion for helping people unlock their true potential. She has completed training for Certified Kinesiotaping and has completed John Barnes Myofascial Release I. Patti's wide base of knowledge and her manual skills allow her to specialize in assisting people manage chronic pain and achieve personal and functional outcomes.
Julie Scott, MS,CCC - SLP
Julie Scott graduated from Old Dominion University in 2000 with a Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology. Julie joined the Riverside team in 2000 and has experience in all levels of care including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, home health and outpatient therapy. Julie specializes in Neuro Recovery post stroke and brain injury, with a passion for working with high level cognitive deficits and assisting with functional return to gainful employment. In addition, Julie is certified in VitalStim, FEES privileged, LSVT Certified to improve communication in individuals with Parkinson's Disease, and is a STAR Certified Practitioner for Cancer Rehabilitation. Julie combines her traditional therapeutic interventions with her training in myofascial release to maximize outcomes for her patients.
Shantel Blume, PT, DPT, CLT
Shantel graduated from Arcadia University in January 2013 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. She joined the Riverside team shortly after graduation and attained Direct Access Certification in August 2013. Dr. Blume is at two Newport News locations: Riverside Physical Therapy-Regional Medical Center and Riverside Physical Therapy-Shoreview. Shantel utilizes her personal experience as a dancer to provide dance rehabilitation and injury prevention for pre-professional and professional dancers. She specializes in orthopedic/neurorehabilitation, as well as aquatic therapy in the outpatient setting. She is a certified lymphedema therapist and treats these patients on the medical center campus. Shantel believes in building rapport with her patients and clients to maximize recovery and benefit from therapy.
