Post-Bariatric Surgery

Major weight loss, through surgical or non-surgical means, is a significant achievement and the foundation to a better life. Bariatric surgery is liberating for many patients. However, after significant weight loss, patients can be left with excess baggy skin. Excess hanging skin can cause hygiene problems, decrease mobility, make daily tasks difficult and create discomfort. This sagging skin can be removed through body contouring plastic surgery procedures that help weight loss patients achieve a new positive body image.

With post bariatric surgery you will hear terms such as "body contouring" or a "body lift." The focus of post bariatric surgery is to reduce the excess skin and fat that is left behind from the expansion of skin, loss of fat and lack of tissue elasticity that often occurs after a major weight loss.

What can it do for me?
Unfortunately, no amount of diet or exercise can correct large amounts of excess, sagging skin and fat. A body lift will allow you to fully enjoy the fruits of your weight loss by removing excessive skin, and increasing your confidence.

Who is a good Candidate for Post Bariatric Surgery?
Patients who have recently experienced loss of a large amount of weight through procedures such as gastric banding or bypass surgery or nonsurgical methods such as diet or exercise. Patients must have maintained a stable weight for an extended period of time, usually over a year, and do not expect further weight loss. They should be in good health and maintain a healthy diet during the year following weight loss surgery.

What can I Expect with Post Bariatric Surgery?
Post bariatric surgery combines a variety of contouring procedures including thigh lift, tummy tuck, buttocks lift, liposuction, and sometimes others. Because body lift surgery is an extensive undertaking, it is sometimes performed in stages. Post-bariatric plastic surgery is highly individualized and is customized according to the patient's needs.

What is the Consultation Fee?
Because of the significant amount of time and resources we will reserve for your appointment, we require a $60 fee for new cosmetic consultations. This initial consultation fee will be applied toward your procedure if you choose to move forward.
