After earning his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, Dr. Sandberg completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Arizona. He also completed fellowship training in adult hip and knee reconstruction at Indiana University. Dr. Sandberg is eligible for board certification by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
With a lifelong interest in medicine and a family of builders, Dr. Sandberg found orthopedic surgery to be a natural career choice, and one that he finds joy in. In particular, he enjoys seeing the impact of hip and knee replacements on his patients’ quality of life. His specialization in these surgeries includes total, partial, revision and infected replacements of the hip and knee.
Committed to being honest and clear and treating patients as family, Dr. Sandberg believes his responsibility is to provide every treatment option available, including non-operative treatment when applicable. He takes time to explain the choices, and the data behind them, before making a shared decision with the patient.
Dr. Sandberg grew up near Salt Lake City, Utah. Married with one daughter, he loves the history and scenery of the Hampton Roads area. In his free time, Dr. Sandberg enjoys playing music, kayaking, skiing, traveling and spending time with family.
