Ray L. James, Jr., M.D.
Dr. James received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College and earned his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine internship and served as chief resident during his residency at the University of Rochester. He then completed a fellowship in digestive disease and nutrition at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Dr. James is board certified in internal medicine and Gastroenterology and is a fellow of both the American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians. He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. James is on the active medical staff of Riverside Regional Medical Center and Sentara Careplex and has been selected as a "Top Doc" by Hampton Roads Magazine.
Dr. James' special medical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. He routinely performs colonoscopies, endoscopies, and other advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
