As part of your treatment plan at Riverside, your doctor may give you the option to participate in a clinical trial.

Clinical trials are human research studies designed to evaluate the effectiveness of new ways to treat cancer. The trials compare new treatment to the current, best, standard treatments. Today's standard treatment was developed out of clinical trials.

Management and Safety

The Peninsula Cancer Institute (PCI), an affiliate of Riverside Health System, oversees the management of clinical trials. Eligibility criteria for participation in a study vary depending on the purpose of the research. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) also monitor all clinical trials for patient safety.

The experienced and caring PCI staff can help answer your questions and provide you with all the information you will need, before making your decision to participate in a trial.  They will clearly explain the benefits and risks of your involvement in this opportunity.
