“I always knew I wanted to go into nursing. There was always something within me that made me want to care for people.”
Saluda, Va. - Riverside Convalescent Center – Saluda recently named Praise Webb, RN, as its new Director of Nursing.
Located on Gloucester Road, leading into the heart of Saluda in Middlesex County, Riverside Convalescent Center – Saluda offers comprehensive nursing and rehabilitation services, including physical, speech, occupational and recreational therapies.
“For a lot of people, it may seem like Saluda is located in the middle of nowhere, but there are a lot of people around here who benefit from having the convalescent center being located here, in their community, close to their former homes, friends and family,” Webb said. “I’m honored to be selected to serve in this role.”
A graduate of Northumberland High School, Webb earned her certification as a licensed practical nurse from Rappahannock Community College and studied to become a registered nurse at the Medical Careers Institute.
“I always knew I wanted to go into nursing,” Webb said. “My mom died of ovarian cancer when I was 9 and there was always something within me that made me want to care for people.”
When studying to become a nurse, Webb said, she didn’t immediately see herself working in long term care.
“The best job opportunity I had first out of school was in a long-term care facility,” Webb said. “I will admit, I thought I would only work there as long as I had to. Now I can’t see myself working anywhere else. In this setting, I get to work with residents in their home. I get to know them. To hear their stories. Here we truly have the opportunity to care for others at a time when they most need us.”
Webb joined the Riverside team in 2013, first working at The Orchard in nearby Warsaw and then moving to the Saluda Convalescent Center where she served as a nurse supervisor before being named the Director of Nursing.
“Riverside has been a good company to work for,” Webb said. “The atmosphere is great, there is always a lot of support, and most importantly, everyone treats you like family, not just an employee.”
As the Director of Nursing, Webb oversees the nursing department and helps provide the leadership to maintain a culture of home for all residents.
“We may come to work here, but this is our residents’ homes,” Webb said. “It’s important for us to allow them to make their own choices, to be a part of their own care, even if it’s as simple as choosing what time they get a shower or what they have to eat.”
