Riverside Staff on the Middle Peninsula

Gloucester, Va. – Riverside Health System will host two job fairs this month for health care workers looking for rewarding career opportunities in a variety of settings, including hospitals and care practices, convalescent centers and retirement communities, as well as hospice and home health.

March 20 Job Fair Focuses on Riverside Walter Reed Hospital

The job fair on March 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital just off of Gloucester’s Main Street, will focus on nursing (RNs), physical therapists and food services professionals for the hospital. In addition, representatives from Riverside Medical Group will be on hand to fill positions in various practices for nurses (LPNs), assistants, medical and ophthalmic assistants as well as sleep technicians.

The growing Riverside Walter Reed Hospital facility, which recently completed the first phase of an extensive renovation and expansion, has earned multiple accolades in recent years.

The facility is nationally recognized as a Breast Center of Excellence, is a Primary Stroke Center and has earned its Chest Pain Certification. Nursing recognition includes being a Pathways of Excellence facility and the Cancer Center on campus was recognized with a 2017 Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), one of only a select group of 16 U.S. accredited cancer programs to receive this national honor.

Additional expansion at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, expected to be completed by mid-2019, includes a new Surgical and Inpatient Services building, a further expanded Emergency Department, an enhanced entrance and more – all designed to further increase patient care and comfort.

Job Fair on March 22 for Positions at Convalescent Centers, Sanders, Hospice and Home Health

A second job fair will be held on March 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Gloucester Library on Main Street to identify candidates for employment at Riverside Convalescent Centers in Mathews, West Point and Saluda, as well as at Sanders Retirement Community and Hospice and Home Health services. A variety of positions are available, including multiple nursing positions (LPNs, CNAs, RNs) as well as food and environmental services professionals.

These facilities have each received awards and accreditations for the care the Riverside team provides. Riverside Convalescent Center-Mathews Administrator Don Lundin received the 2018 Eli Pick Facility Leadership Award from the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA), an honor that places the Center among the top 11 percent of Skilled Nursing Facilities nationally.

The ACHCA and the National Center for Assisted Living honored Riverside Convalescent Center-West Point with a 2017 Bronze Commitment to Quality Award – one of only seven awarded to long and short-term care facilities in Virginia.

All of the lifelong health facilities on the Middle Peninsula have earned a five-star rating – the highest possible – from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The rating places them among the top 10 percent of facilities in the country.

Sanders is a leading-edge facility, whose Heron Cove property opened in 2012 as the state's first freestanding household model of care for older adults. Independent Living, Assisted Living, long-term care and rehabilitation services are also part of the Sanders community, which has reached associate status with the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) program.
