Phase 2 guidelines

Dear Riverside Wellness & Fitness Center Family, The Governor has announced additional guidelines for the phased reopening of Virginia fitness facilities as part of the state’s Phase 3 guidelines. Given that, Riverside Wellness & Fitness Center facilities will move into Phase 2 of our reopening on Wednesday, July 1. This will allow our facilities to open at a 75 percent reduced capacity, subject to additional necessary guidelines and restrictions designed to help our clubs operate as safely as possible.

Below are some guidelines for what is changing in Phase 2:

  • Adjusted closing times. We will now close one hour later each day – at 8:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, and 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Reopening of our pool for lap swimming, free swim, private and group swim lessons. Lap swimmers will have a 30 minute time limit. Reservations can be made 24 hours in advance by calling the center to make a reservation or signing up at the front desk.
  • Use of locker rooms and showers will be available with restrictions in place to adhere to physical distancing guidelines
  • Track maximum use will increase to 15 members at a time
  • Additional group exercise options will be available for members including our clinical wellness classes Maintaining Movement and Building Balance
  • Massage Therapy will resume
  • Racquetball courts will be open for singles play only
  • Pickle ball will resume at our Middle Peninsula facility
  • Tennis will now be open for doubles play
  • Lobby seating will be available
  • Water fountains will be open for use

Saturday and Sunday ― 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Available services: Cardiovascular and strength training machines and equipment, free weights, group exercise and clinical wellness classes, lap & free swimming, personal training, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, racquetball, massage therapy, locker room & shower usage (with limitations and restrictions).
Unavailable at this time: whirlpool, saunas, childcare and towel service.

Riverside Wellness & Fitness Center – Middle Peninsula in Gloucester
Facility hours:
Monday–Friday ― 5:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday ― 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Available services: Cardiovascular and strength training machines and equipment, free weights, group exercise and clinical wellness classes, lap & free swimming, personal training, outdoor tennis courts, racquetball, pickle ball, basketball, massage therapy, locker room & shower usage (with limitations and restrictions).
Unavailable at this time: whirlpool, saunas, childcare and towel service.

In addition, we will still continue to provide the following services to support the health & safety of our members and team members, and maintain the proper cleanliness of our facility:

  • Physical distancing signage throughout the facility
  • Additional hand sanitizing stations
  • Healthy spacing of fitness equipment with rotating schedule for use
  • Increased disinfecting procedures of equipment and common spaces throughout the day

We look forward to moving into Phase 2 of our reopening and providing additional services to our members beginning July 1. As a reminder, we encourage you to bring your own towel, water bottle and mat when coming to workout. What screening precautions are in place?
All members will be required to complete a temperature check and answer screening questions prior to checking in to the facility. Those who have an elevated temperature or have been exposed to COVID-19 may be asked to refrain from club usage for up to 14 days.

Do I need to wear a mask?
Yes. All members will be required to wear a mask into and out of the facility and all times except when exercising. This is in line with state requirements. Our team will also wear masks.

Do I need to register for classes?
Registration is required for all classes at our Middle Peninsula facility, and for our Cycle classes only at our Peninsula facility. The remaining classes at our Peninsula facility are first come, first served. Registrations can be made by calling our facility or stopping by the front desk. We will not be offering water aerobics classes during Phase 2.

How will the Riverside Wellness & Fitness Centers maintain physical distancing?
All group exercise classes will be reduced to provide for 10 feet of distance between members. Cardio and strength equipment will be distanced as needed, removed from service or placed on a rotational schedule.

Are there parts of the facility that will not be open?
Hot tubs, steam rooms and saunas will remain closed during Phase 2.

Are there any changes to the guest policy?
For the safety of our members, we will not offer guest access to our facilities during Phase 2.

Can I store my items while at the gym?
Our locker rooms will open during Phase 2, with limited locker use available. You will be able to store your items in a locker for the day in our locker room if needed.

Will the pool be open?
Our pool will be open for lap swimming, group and private swim lessons only. Sign-up for a 30 minute time slot at the front desk. Reservations may be made 24 hours in advance.
