Volunteering with Riverside Tappahannock Hospital is a very rewarding experience with many opportunities. As a volunteer, you will interact and assist with patients, become a part of a great hospital family, and work with others to help make a difference in our community. Our volunteers work with the public, assist visitors around the hospital, or aid members of the health care team throughout the hospital.

Generally, we schedule your work schedule based on your availability and the number of hours you wish to devote to the hospital and our patients. As a volunteer with Riverside Tappahannock Hospital, you are in control of your hours.

Chaplaincy Volunteer Program

Junior Volunteer Program
Each summer, Riverside Tappahannock Hospital invites local teens to experience the world of health care as junior volunteers. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to cancel our 2020 summer programs. We will monitor the situation and restart our junior volunteer program when it is safe to do so.

The Junior Volunteer Program consists of two five-week sessions, open to students who are 13- to 18-years-old and meet the minimum requirements of the application process. Applications are accepted no later than the first week in June for the first session and no later than the first week in July for the second session. Students must be in good academic standing, have parental permission and attend mandatory orientation.

Junior Volunteering develops such skills as:

  • Assessing personal strengths and challenges
  • Working effectively in a team
  • Seeking information or advice when it is needed
  • Making decisions
  • Goal-setting, planning and time management
  • Personal responsibility and accountability
  • Dealing with people of power and authority
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Effective communication

Our Junior Volunteer Program provides students with an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience related to health care careers and business office environments. This program also offers patient services and clerical support to a variety of hospital departments. Contact the program coordinator located in the Human Resources Department for an application packet (804-443-6263).
