Dr. Kimberly Schlesinger to lead November 14’s free community discussion.
KILMARNOCK, Va. November 2, 2017 – In its 2016 Cancer Care Annual Report, Riverside Health System reported that the number of patients diagnosed with cancer or receiving initial cancer care in its facilities more than doubled since 2005, and in the Tappahannock and Northern Neck regions, cancer is the leading cause of death.
But today, there are more high-quality cancer treatment options and programs offered in the area than ever before – rivaling the options available in even the largest metropolitan areas.
On Tuesday, November 14 at 2 pm at the Car Wash Café in Kilmarnock, Riverside Tappahannock Hospital will host a community discussion about the many new and emerging approaches to treating cancer. The event is free and open to the community.
Kimberly Schlesinger, M.D., Riverside Tappahannock Hospital’s full-time oncologist and hematologist, will lead the discussion, highlighting the latest state-of-the art cancer care offerings and support services available locally that are producing positive patient outcomes.
"This is a very exciting time for the folks in Tappahannock,” Schlesinger said. Riverside identified that “cancer is the number one cause of death in the region. In response to that we have developed a multi-disciplinary approach for the patients” that brings together cancer screenings, surgical specialists and treatment options.
Dr. Schlesinger, who treats patients out of Riverside Tappahannock Hospital’s newly renovated Cancer Infusion Center, will highlight the various cancer treatments in easy-to-understand layman’s terms, and attendees will have ample opportunity to ask questions for additional information.
