Joining the Riverside Team a No BrainerWhat drew Leslie Detrick, RN to Riverside Tappahannock Hospital may have been a job fair. But what's kept her there is how the place – and the people – make her feel. |

Like the kindness of a nurse, the first person she met at the job fair. "She just won my heart," Detrick said. "Her attitude" was welcoming and kind. Or the home-like feel. "It felt like I was actually at home when I stepped through those doors." And the presence of a caring community. "People here care about their job and care about what they do, and they want to make a difference in the community." So much so that "as a new nurse, when I came to Riverside, they provided me with the training that I needed. People were willing to help me. They sent me to the classes that I needed. Whenever I had questions or concerns they always addressed my need." It all made it a "no brainer to come here to Riverside," Detrick said. At Riverside, Detrick said, she's been able to do her most important work as a nurse –to make a difference in someone's life. "I'd like to be the person to let them know they are worth something," she said. "I see a lot of family members that come in here and visit patients, but there's also patients that have no one. For me, I can be that person they don't have. That gives me a lot of fulfillment." |
