Vikas Pathak, MD
After earning his medical degree from Nepal Medical College in 2004, Dr. Pathak completed an internal medicine residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York in 2010. He completed fellowship training in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at the University of North Carolina before completing an additional fellowship in interventional pulmonology at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. Dr. Pathak is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine, and by the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology in interventional pulmonology.
In the dynamic specialties of pulmonology and critical care medicine, Dr. Pathak finds it very satisfying to help colleagues in other specialties take care of their patients in the ICU. For him, it is rewarding to reassure patients and their families while they are sick, and gratifying to provide continuity of care on an outpatient basis as well. Dr. Pathak is committed to owning his patients’ problems, treating them as family and doing everything in his capacity to help. He also believes in devoting time to medical research and sharing his knowledge and skills with anyone who wants to learn.
Highly trained and widely published in international medical journals, Dr. Pathak possesses extensive expertise in interventional pulmonology, lung cancer, complex airway disease, pleural diseases, pleural effusion, mediastinal and hilar lymphadenopathy, pulmonary nodules, lung masses, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy and bronchial thermoplasty.
Dr. Pathak and his wife, Riva, both grew up in Nepal. Today the Pathaks and their two children enjoy the endless opportunities for outdoor activities in Hampton Roads. Dr. Pathak’s favorite hobbies include playing and watching soccer, as well as reading and visiting new places.
