Dr. McAllister proudly earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina. He then completed residency training in Neurosurgery at Loyola University Medical Center and Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He received additional training in adult spinal deformities at Rush St. Luke's Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. He completed additional training in neurology at the University of California, San Francisco. He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. McAllister specializes in the surgical treatment of brain tumors as well as all aspects of spinal surgery. He has a particular interest in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, pituitary tumors and peripheral nerve disorders. He has expertise in Gamma Knife radiosurgery for the treatment of brain tumors. He values honesty and has a straightforward approach to neurosurgical practice.
A native of Norfolk, Dr. McAllister considers the Tidewater region his home. Outside of neurosurgery, he enjoys cycling, watching his sons compete and supporting the Tarheels and UNC.
