Michael Puruckherr, MD

Dr. Puruckherr earned his medical degree in 1995 from the Philipps University of Marburg in Germany, where he also trained at one of the world’s first sleep labs. He completed an internal medicine residency and a pulmonary medicine/critical care fellowship at East Tennessee State University, finishing his training in 2004. Dr. Puruckherr is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and sleep medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Physicians.
A strong interest in breathing disorders and sleep problems led Dr. Puruckherr to become a highly trained and experienced specialist in this field. His areas of focus include COPD, asthma, interstitial lung diseases and a variety of sleep disorders.
Striving to deliver excellent, compassionate medical care, Dr. Puruckherr wants his patients to leave each office visit with a smile and a complete understanding of their care plan. He approaches his work with an emphasis on building strong physician-patient relationships and forming goals of care together, working to maximize a positive outcome for every patient.
Born and raised in Germany, Dr. Puruckherr now enjoys the rivers, oceans, beaches, colonial history and Southern kindness found in our area. He loves spending time with his wife and their twin boys, and his favorite hobbies include hiking, tennis and water sports.
