Velma Bacak M.D.

Medical Director, Child and Adolescent Services
Dr. Velma Bacak received her BA and her medical degree from the University of Virginia. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in 1976 and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honorary Society in 1980. She completed the psychiatric residency training at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA and served several years in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. She completed the Child Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Rochester, where she helped to design and establish the acute child and adolescent unit.

Dr. Bacak has been in private practice in Virginia since 1992 and is now a partner at Churchland Psychiatric Associates. She continues to engage in teaching including supervising residents from the U.S. Navy, supervising medical students from EVMS and recently has been the on-site clinical supervisor for EVMS residents during their child rotation. She has an interest in inpatient work, acute and residential. In 2010, she was selected to be a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She currently serves as medical director for Child and Adolescent Services at Riverside Behavioral Health Center.
