Welcome to Riverside Vascular Specialists where experience, compassion and the latest technology come together to provide you with specialty care for conditions affecting the vascular system. We diagnose and treat diseases and disorders of the blood vessels outside of the heart and brain. These procedures include surgical bypass operations of the leg and the arteries in the neck as well as less invasive surgical procedures including the Venous Closure Procedure.

Our vascular specialists are certified by the American Board of Surgeons and are Fellows in the American College of Surgeons.

Our vascular medicine and surgery specialists diagnose and treat diseases and disorders of the blood vessels outside of the heart and brain. Commonly treated conditions include:

  • Claudication (pain with swelling)
  • Varicose veins
  • Aneurysms
  • Stroke (TIA-mini-stroke)
  • Diabetic foot problems (ulcers, pain, infection)
  • Raynauds Syndrome
  • Leg swelling
  • Venous ulcers

Diagnostic Testing
We provide noninvasive testing procedures at our office or at the hospital. Common tests include:

  • Vascular Ultrasound
  • Angiogram

Minimally Invasive Endovascular Surgery
Most of our minimally invasive procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. Common procedures include:

  • Balloon angioplasty
  • Stent procedures to treat blockages in blood vessels
  • Aortic Aneurysm stenting/repair
  • Venous ablation for varicose veins (in office)

Vascular Surgery
Common procedures include:

  • Carotid surgery
  • Hemodialyisis access surgery
  • Leg bypass surgery
  • Varicose vein surgery
  • Aortic Surgery for aneurysm and occlusive disease

The Venous Closure Procedure
Our surgeons offer the Venous Closure Procedure for those suffering from venous reflux disease which includes symptoms such as varicose veins, pain, swollen limbs, leg heaviness and skin changes and ulcers. Performed on an outpatient basis, patients undergoing VCP usually resume normal activities within a day.  Most major health insurers cover the procedure.

Appointments
Physicians are available for consultation and follow up appointments at either our Williamsburg or Newport News location.

Office consultation requires a referral from your primary care physician. If you need our assistance in securing the referral, please contact us and we'll be glad to help.

If you need to change your appointment time, we appreciate notification at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled visit. 

Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment.

What to bring to your first appointment:

  • Insurance card,
  • Photo I.D.,
  • Co-payment, if needed,
  • List of medications and dosages or the original prescription bottles.

If you are being treated by a physician of Riverside Medical Group, we can access your medical records electronically. Otherwise, please bring copies of relevant medical records, if possible.

Diagnostic Testing
Testing may include vascular ultrasound testing or a more specialized test called an angiogram. Many ultrasound tests may be performed in the Vascular Lab in our office.   Some tests including angiograms are performed at the hospital and our staff will make those arrangements for you.

Insurance
We accept most major insurance including Medicare. When you make your appointment, please confirm that we accept your insurance.

Medical records
As a means of expediting care and increasing patient safety we store medical records electronically. This secure system facilitates clear communication among your physicians. Manage Your Health Online
We've introduced a new electronic health record, which you can access via Riverside MyChart. You will have 24/7 access to parts of your health record by enrolling in MyChart .

Insurance
We accept most major insurance. If you change your insurance and need assistance, please call our office.

Referrals
Office consultation requires a referral from your primary care physician. Initial visits and follow-up appointments may be scheduled in either the Newport News or Williamsburg offices. If you need our assistance in securing the referral, please contact us. Riverside Nurse telephone service
What can you do if you develop a cough at midnight? Call the Riverside Nurse, a free service of Riverside that's available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A registered nurse trained in telephone triage will answer your questions and, if needed, refer you to a physician for treatment. Call (800) 675-6368. Of course, if you have a life-threatening situation, call 911.

Your initial consultation will require a referral from your primary care physician. If you need our assistance in securing a referral, please call us.

After hours
Please call the Riverside physician-on-call at (757) 594-2000. In case of an emergency, call 911.

Refills and referrals
If you need a refill or a referral, please call the office during office hours or make a request through MyChart. Requests will be honored only during business hours. Emergencies, call (757) 594-2000.
