Staying independent in your own home
When given the choice, most people prefer to age in place – meaning they want to stay in their own home as they grow older. But not everyone has that choice. Health conditions, disabilities or simply the effects of aging can make it difficult or even impossible to remain at home.

At the same time, older adults may live at a distance from their adult children and even when they’re in the same location, family, friends and neighbors – the traditional support system that some people once had – may not have the ability to provide the required assistance.

So, what’s needed are specialized resources to help individuals continue living in the comfort and familiarity of home with as much independence as possible, for as long as possible.

Through the services offered by Riverside care aides and companions, that possibility can become a reality.

Sometimes you just need a helping hand
Care aides and companions offer a comprehensive range of services designed for older adults – or people at any age needing some extra assistance – who need help with activities of daily living.

Help with MobilityCare aides and companions can help with:

  • Bathing and dressing
  • Preparing meals and snacks
  • Diet monitoring
  • Medication reminders
  • Mobility
  • Incontinence care
  • Light housekeeping, including laundry
  • Errands and shopping
  • Transportation services – these services can include grocery shopping, doctor appointments, visits to friends, outings to breakfast, lunch or dinner
  • Enriching companionship

Please note: Aides can provide the same services as companions, but companions cannot take on all the same responsibilities as aides. For example, only aides can offer various forms of hands-on care.

In addition, care aides and companions offer respite care for family caregivers. Clients often require a combination of these services that are intended to support safety, greater activity and increased independence for people who choose to remain in their home. In all cases, a thorough evaluation of individual needs forms the basis for a highly personalized care plan.

The people behind the program and services
Whenever possible, Riverside makes every attempt to send the same aide or companion into the home. Over time, these individuals often develop close bonds with clients that make the experience feel more like a friend or family member stopping by to visit … and then staying to help.

Companionship 2All of our care aides and companions are prescreened, insured and receive ongoing, in-depth training in issues related to aging and home care. And based on their training and experience, these Riverside team members are sensitive to the fact that they are entering your residence or a family member’s residence as a guest.

As a result, they bring a strong feeling of respect for the special place you call home, along with an exceptionally high standard of service and reliability. Riverside provides 24/7 coverage for home visits, with aides and companions available to help clients 365 days of the year.

Why the Riverside connection matters
Our aides and companions are Riverside employees, making them part of one of the largest nongovernment provider of services to older adults in our state. Through their attachment to a comprehensive health system, they bring an extensive array of resources, along with immediate coordination with other levels of care if needed, that can’t be duplicated by most other providers of home care.

At the same time, they are also local residents themselves, an advantage that makes them more aware of what’s available within the community to help clients remain safe and independent in their own homes.

Companions can’t provide hands-on care – only the aides can. Note the aides can provide the same services as the companions but not the other way around.
