About Timothy Mark Powell, MD

Dr. Powell earned his medical degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1999. He completed a urology residency at Southern Illinois University in 2007 and a urology fellowship in laparoscopy, endoscopy and robotic surgery with Sentara Medical Group in 2011. Dr. Powell is board-certified by the American Board of Urology.

During his 21 years with the U.S. Navy, Dr. Powell served in multiple medical leadership roles, including director of surgical services on the hospital ship USNS Comfort and head of urology at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa. He continues to apply the Navy core values of honor, courage and commitment to all aspects of life, including his medical practice.

Dr. Powell enjoys providing both medical and surgical care for a diverse array of urological problems, with a focus on adult urology. His areas of expertise include advanced kidney stone disease, complicated ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Dr. Powell previously taught urology residents at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Powell considers Hampton Roads a great place to raise a family and is especially fond of the local activities and historical sites. He and his wife have three children. Dr. Powell coached youth soccer for many years and enjoys traveling.
