About Ko Ko Maung, MD
Dr. Maung earned his medical degree from East Tennessee State University in 2014. He completed an internal medicine residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire in 2017, followed by a hematology, oncology and cellular therapy fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in 2020. Dr. Maung is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in hematology and medical oncology.
Recognizing that cancer is a scary diagnosis for anyone, Dr. Maung finds joy in being an advocate for his patients. His goal is to empower patients in dealing with their illnesses by providing individualized treatment options, guidance and support through their most difficult times.
Dr. Maung’s areas of focus include cancers of the breast, lung, prostate and colon, as well as hematologic diseases. Highly trained in his specialties, he is committed to managing each diagnosis through a team effort with his patients and colleagues.
After growing up in Myanmar in Southeast Asia, Dr. Maung moved to the U.S. for college in 2003. He finds that Hampton Roads offers a friendly environment, ethnic food options and many activities for young families like his. Dr. Maung and his wife, who’ve known each other since middle school, have three daughters. Dr. Maung enjoys hiking, swimming, traveling and meeting new people.
