About Jennifer Joyce Fisher, NP
Cancer Care
Jennifer is a board-certified, award-winning family nurse practitioner with more than 14 years of nursing experience. She has been caring for cancer patients since 2007. In 2021 she earned her master’s in nursing from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating with honors.
With personal cancer experience, Jennifer can empathize with the patients in her care. At 17 she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, so she understands what it’s like to endure months of treatment and testing (along with all of the fears and side-effects that come with a cancer diagnosis). She decided to pursue oncology for the opportunity to connect with other cancer patients and be a partner along their journeys.
She has been recognized for her compassion and dedication over the years. Jennifer has earned multiple patient nominations for Riverside’s Champion of Caring Award and won the Josie King Foundation Hero Award, given to health care professionals who work hard to create a culture of patient safety.
Jennifer believes that while she is responsible for treating patients medically, that isn’t the only purpose of her job. She believes that all people are on the journey of life together and that we meet exactly when we are supposed to meet, for the purpose intended — whether that’s a smile, a hug, a listening ear or something bigger. Jennifer is also a firm believer in the healing power of laughter.
She grew up in Ohio and has lived in Virginia since 1998. She is married with two children, two dogs, two goats, chickens and a pig. She loves to read, and listen to podcasts, lectures and TED Talks in her free time.
