About Jamila Scarlett Wynter, MD

Jamila Wynter, M.D., is a fellowship-trained and board-certified gastroenterologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases including acid reflux, difficulty swallowing, internal and external hemorrhoids, rectal bleeding, unexplained anemia, changes in bowel frequency, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and chronic liver disease.  Dr. Wynter performs various gastrointestinal procedures, such as colonoscopy, endoscopy, enteroscopy, sigmoidoscopy and capsule endoscopy.  Dr. Wynter is passionate about educating her patients on preventative health measures such as colon cancer screening, as well as healthy diet and lifestyle. The most rewarding part of her job is building long-lasting relationships with her patients and making them feel at ease in a warm and welcoming clinical environment.  

Dr. Wynter earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut and her medical degree from The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and a gastroenterology fellowship with Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Wynter volunteers her time and expertise as a member of the Virginia area board of directors for the American Cancer Society.  

Originally from Atlanta, Dr. Wynter now resides in Newport News with her husband, Mayor Phillip Jones, and their son. An avid reader and traveler, she enjoys getting lost in a good book, trying new restaurants, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She especially loves exploring and relaxing along the waterfront areas of the city she proudly calls home.

Seemed rushed and again didn't acknowledge my history as to why I was there, it was a a follow-up for previous colonoscopy. Had to refresh her memory on my issues . Read my chart before coming in room!!!!
