Orthopedic Surgeon Specializing in Hand, Wrist, and Elbow Care in Williamsburg and Newport News, VA – James C Kyriakedes, MD

Dr. Kyriakedes, a fellowship trained surgeon, specializes in hand, wrist and elbow arthritis, including joint fusions, arthroscopy, as well as traumatic injuries from the fingertip to elbow, causing fractures (broken bones), dislocations and tendon and nerve lacerations; he also treats sports injuries to the fingers, thumb, wrist and elbow. Additionally, Dr. Kyriakedes treats hand numbness or tingling, Dupuytren’s disease, finger triggering and hand tumors. His training at busy academic trauma and referral centers has prepared Dr. Kyriakedes with an imperative balance of cutting-edge surgical options and tried-and-true “gold standard” treatments.

Dr. Kyriakedes earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, followed by fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Dr. Kyriakedes is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and he also holds a subspecialty certificate in surgery of the hand.

Dr. Kyriakedes was drawn to orthopedic surgery, specifically of the hand, wrist and elbow, for the opportunity to improve the quality of patients’ lives limited by injuries or degenerative conditions. Recognizing that our hands are the center of interaction with the world around us, he finds it extremely rewarding to help a musician return to music or a grandmother to playing with her grandchildren. Dr. Kyriakedes always treats his patients as he would want his family treated, keeping in mind that many conditions can be healed non-operatively, while others require surgical intervention to minimize pain and to maximize clinical and functional outcomes. His goal is to tailor treatment to each patient’s unique situation and expectations.

Originally from Ohio, Dr. Kyriakedes and his wife both grew up visiting the Atlantic Ocean and have always wanted to live near it. Moving to Hampton Roads has fulfilled that dream, and they enjoy exploring all of the area’s unique cities, neighborhoods and water with their two boys. Dr. Kyriakedes loves outdoor recreation, traveling with his family and watching football.
