About Elizabeth Margaret Breton, DNP
Elizabeth Breton, DNP, FNP-C
Gastroenterology
Originally from New England, Elizabeth practiced at several area hospitals in New Hampshire and Virginia before joining Riverside Health System. Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, she earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing and Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Liberty University.
Drawn to nursing for the opportunity to work with many age groups and within different specialty fields, Elizabeth gained experience caring for a diverse array of patients and conditions as acute care and travel nurse—working with a range of healthcare teams from oncology to orthopedics and substance abuse.
Experienced in delivering culturally competent care, Elizabeth strives to consider each patient’s unique social background and barriers. Through medical mission trips to Togo, West Africa, Kigali, Rwanda and Anato Bay, Jamaica, she has immersed herself in other cultures while providing critical healthcare and education to underserved populations.
A firm believer in empowering her patients to take control of their health, Elizabeth wrote her doctoral dissertation on utilizing the Teach-Back Method to help patients understand their discharge and self-care instructions.
Elizabeth decided to stay because of the people. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her two dogs.
