About Derek Blaine Clark, DO

Derek B. Clark, D.O., is a family medicine physician specializing in mental health, lifestyle medicine, wellness, diabetes and high blood pressure. Dr. Clark takes pride in forming relationships with his patients and caring for them throughout their lives. 

A homegrown talent, Dr. Clark earned a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience from Christopher Newport University in Newport News and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is board certified by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. 

Dr. Clark believes a person is more than labs, images and symptoms. He respects his patients’ autonomy in making medical decisions and aspires to be their guide and educator in managing their health. He often reflects on a quote by John Steinbeck that encapsulates his philosophy on the doctor-patient relationship: “What do I want in a doctor? Perhaps more than anything else—a friend with special knowledge.” 

An Eastern Shore native, Dr. Clark loves the area’s sense of community, belonging and purpose. When he’s not at work, he enjoys reading, grilling, playing poker and spending time with his family.

I was very impressed with Dr Derek Clark. I like his style of really listening, looking at me when I talk with him, asking about my health history, including asking for more info about past illnesses/surgery etc, and explaining his plan of care for me. He seems to be a great fit for our rural health care team. He is professional, easy to talk with, relaxed and thorough. I'm delighted to get established with him as my primary care physician!

Dr. Derek Clark is the kind of family doctor I've been searching for for years. He is friendly and personable, yet blunt when speaking about his patient's health. I switched to him originally for convenience as his office is closer to home, but now I'm so glad I did. He radiates a sense of joy and compassion so rarely seen in the medical field these days, and his passion for his job shows in everything he says and does. I look forward to working with him for many years!
