About Alexandra E Ward, MD

Dr. Ward earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2012. She completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where she was selected to be a chief resident. Dr. Ward then completed fellowship training in cardiology at the Jefferson Heart Institute in Philadelphia. She is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and eligible for sub-specialty certification in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular diseases. She is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation.

Dr. Ward is passionate about the continuously evolving field of cardiology, particularly the constant improvement in treatments and groundbreaking therapeutic options. She knows firsthand the importance of incorporating new research and technologies, as well as the impact of cardiovascular disease on her patients and their families, as she has a family history of cardiovascular disease. She believes in the importance of listening to her patients and sharing decision-making, actively engaging patients in all aspects of their care.

Dr. Ward has a special interest in women’s cardiovascular disease, including diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Her interest began during residency, when she became increasingly aware that women’s cardiovascular disease is different in presentation, diagnosis and management as compared to their male counterparts. Dr. Ward is passionate about educating her patients and colleagues about these differences.

Born in New York City and raised at the Jersey Shore, Dr. Ward is new to Hampton Roads. She is excited to explore the area’s history and learn to paddle board. In her free time, Dr. Ward enjoys being outside, especially at the beach, as well as spending time with family and friends.
