About Adel Anwar Boulos-Mikhaiel, MD

Board-certified and fellowship-trained neurologist Adel A. Boulos-Mikhaiel, M.D., earned a medical degree from Cairo University School of Medicine in Egypt and a master’s degree in diagnostic radiology from Ein Shams University, also in Cairo. Dr. Boulos-Mikhaiel completed his neurology residency at Albany Medical College in New York. Dr. Boulos-Mikhaiel chose neurology as a specialty because of his deep interest in the nervous system and how it controls the entire body. He sees patients with a variety of neurological conditions, including those with epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, headaches, dementia and neuromuscular disorders. In addition to having special expertise in performing electromyography studies for neuromuscular disorders and spine problems and Botox therapy for chronic headaches, he is also specialty trained in neuroimaging and in electroencephalography interpretation (a noninvasive way to detect abnormal brain waves and epilepsy).

Dr. Boulos-Mikhaiel enjoys caring for patients and helping them live healthier lives. He keeps abreast of up-to-date treatments in his field and works to allow adequate time to give each patient individual attention.

Married to a physician, Dr. Boulos-Mikhaiel has one son who is majoring in computer science. His family moved to Hampton Roads from upstate New York, and they appreciate the mild weather, the beaches and the history. He also enjoys exercising, reading and is a soccer fan.

So disappointed. Dr.never asked me a question about my concerns or really even addressed them at all. [...] I never even got out of my chair and neither did he except to show me a brain model about something I already knew about or to leave the room. Assistant gave memory test. He talked about advances In Alzheimer research some, but not In relation to anything to do with me. [...] He didn't even ask me first about my normal routine of exercise, eating, anxiety [...]. I mentioned concerns and he never asked when do they happen, under what circumstances, what phantom smells are you smelling, what else are you noticing.... Nothing. He then said we could do some blood work - I said I just had it done, it's in my chart. Tests he wanted were in there and normal. Then said he could order a CT and EEG. And then ASKED me if I wanted them. I don't know, he's the doctor.... I said yes thinking well maybe that will at least will be something.I was so disappointed. I have never in my life given a poor review like this and I feel bad to say all these things, but it was NOT a good appointment. At All. I have seen a different physician at this office and it was great- questions asked, neuro done, explanations, etc. She is no longer at the practice. [...] His summary notes about visit aren't totally wrong, but do not include my perspective, or all of what went on.
