About Joel Simmons, MD

Joel R. Simmons, M.D., is a radiation oncologist who specializes in using radiation therapy to treat cancers such as lung, breast and prostate cancer, as well as benign conditions such as osteoarthritis. He has expertise in stereotactic body radiation therapy and other advanced radiation technologies, tailoring each treatment to what is most effective for his patients.

Dr. Simmons completed a combined Bachelor of Science and medical degree program at Kent State University in Ohio. He went on to complete his internship at Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, followed by a residency in radiation oncology at the University of Iowa. Dr. Simmons is board certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology, ensuring patients receive care that meets the highest standards in the field.

Dr. Simmons is dedicated to providing care that is efficient, effective and safe.  He knows that no one wants to spend extra time feeling unwell or going through treatment, so he utilizes shorter course treatment options, such as hypofractionation, ultra-hypofractionation, SBRT and SRS when appropriate so patients can return to enjoying the things they love, as quickly as possible.

Outside of work, Dr. Simmons enjoys spending time with his family. He stays active by lifting weights, riding e-bikes and being outside in nice weather.
