Family Medicine Residency Program
Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program

Riverside Family Medicine Residency is sponsored by Riverside Regional Medical Center. We are affiliated with Virginia Commonwealth University and Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. We are located in beautiful, historic Newport News, Virginia.

Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program is one of the oldest family medicine programs in the country. We were originally established as a “General Practitioner” training program in the 1950’s and became a Family Medicine Residency in 1971 when the specialty was developed. We are proud to have graduated over 650 Family Physicians.

The Residency provides a well-rounded, full spectrum experience that benefits both the education of our residents and the health of our patients. Residents learn to become trusted Primary Care Physicians for their panel of patients while rotating through robust, diverse outpatient and inpatient environments. Whether a resident is learning to do a procedure, an ultrasound, billing and coding or manage a complex patient, they are supported by a team of committed faculty and staff.

Resident education includes daily didactics enhanced by hands on workshops and time in the Simulation Lab. In addition, those interested in Osteopathic Medicine benefit from Riverside’s achievement of Osteopathic Recognition and long history of OMM teaching excellence. Residents grow their osteopathic manipulation skills and knowledge through directed lectures, OMM labs and precepted patient visits.
