We have been humbled at Riverside by the overwhelming generosity and support from the community. Thank you for reminding us that we are all in this together. In response to many of you asking how you can help, we offer some ideas below for practical things you can do to make a real difference. Together as a community we will pull through the COVID-19 pandemic. Remember, the most important thing we can all do to help is to practice social distancing and wash our hands regularly.

Supporting Riverside’s Make a Difference Fund allows for immediate impact in the areas of greatest need. Your gift — of any amount — makes a difference. Your generosity will support:

  • Riverside’s COVID-19 Crisis Response Needs: These funds help us respond quickly with the supplies and resources required at our facilities.
  • Patient Assistance: We have already received many stories of the devastating effects of COVID-19 for those who are financially impacted due to immune deficiencies, layoffs, transportation needs and other issues. These dollars will allow our patient navigators to respond quickly to our patients’ needs during this crisis.
  • The Team Member Help Fund: These funds offer assistance above and beyond what's already in place to help team members who may be financially impacted by COVID-19.

The American Red Cross is facing severe blood shortages. Please consider donating.

Even during this stressful time, the need for blood is constant. We should all be practicing social distancing, but it’s important to know that blood drives are not considered “mass gatherings” because they are controlled events with trained staff and appropriate safety measures to protect donors and recipients. Donating blood is a safe process and people should not hesitate to give or receive blood.

Click here to find a blood drive near you. Riverside blood drives are listed there, but it doesn't matter where you give blood. Any donation helps. Since walk-ins are not being accepted, you will need to make an appointment.

We are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community — but it also important that we restrict the people coming into our facilities. Encouraging notes are a wonderful way to lift the spirits of our clinical and support teams who provide care for patients and Lifelong Health residents across the health system. We have multiple ways for you to engage with our staff. You can email words of encouragement to RiversideStrong@rivhs.com, or mail your note to Riverside Strong, 701 Town Center Drive, Suite 1000, Newport News, VA 23606.

You can also engage with us on Facebook. Your comments, messages and tags mean a lot to us:

To protect residents of our nursing, rehabilitation and assisted living facilities, all visitation has been restricted. However we are accepting encouraging notes, letters and cards to help these residents feel connected to the community. You may send these to Riverside Strong, 701 Town Center Drive, Suite 1000, Newport News, VA 23606. You may also email words of encouragement to RiversideStrong@rivhs.com.

You can also engage with us on Facebook. Your comments, messages and tags mean a lot to us. Messaging ideas to inspire our nursing home and assisting living residents include short videos, photos and encouraging stories.

We have received some wonderful offers of food for our team members. We are only able to accept food from vendors with a food permit, so unfortunately we are unable to accept any homemade food items. If you would like to arrange a food donation for staff members at any facility (hospital, assisted living or skilled nursing home), please contact the facility directly and work with their Administration Department to coordinate.
