Tips for Summer

Summer Safety Tips

By Susan Lewton,
Personal Services Coordinator, ChooseHome

Chances are this newsletter finds you on a warm, sunny, Virginia day. Perhaps you are sitting beside the ocean, listening to the relaxing sounds of the sea. Maybe you’re poolside sipping on a cold, refreshing drink.  No matter where you are, one thing is certain – it’s SUMMERTIME in Virginia!

As ChooseHome Personal Services Coordinators, our role is to help ensure members stay healthy so they can remain safely in their homes. With that in mind, here are our top ten tips for summer.

10. VACATION
While family and friends will be aware you are on vacation, consider letting a trusted neighbor know when you will be away and when you are coming home.

9. BUGS BE GONE
Use bug spray if you are outside for an extended period of time.

8. STAY COOL
Avoid extreme heat and humidity - stay cool inside.

7. SKIN PROTECTION
Wear sun protection – use sunscreen, wear a hat and pop on those sunglasses when outside in the sun.

6. EXERCISE
Exercise outside in the early morning or late evening when it is cooler.

5. TOOTSIES
If you plan to do a lot of walking – wear comfortable shoes that are safe to walk in.

4. SUMMER STYLE
Dress for summer – lightweight, light colored, loose fitting clothes are the best options to keep you cool.

3. AC
Be sure to keep your home cool so you have a place to retreat from Virginia’s hottest days.

2. DRINK UP
Stay hydrated by drinking water, especially when out in the heat.

1. HAVE FUN!
Most important of all, have a happy summer! Enjoying your time at home, on vacation and with family and friends is, after all, the very reason you chose ChooseHome.
