Williamsburg, Va. – Riverside Center for Excellence in Aging and Lifelong Health (CEALH) announced that it is the headline sponsor of the Comedy Bootcamp Graduation Show taking place April 28 in Virginia Beach at the Sandler Center’s Miller Studio Theater.

Comedy Bootcamp, hosted by the Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP), is the first-ever standup comedy class for veterans, service members, and military family members. Led by professional comics, the seven-week course develops the comedy writing and performing skills of participants through hands-on instruction and group feedback.

At the April 28 graduation show held at the Sandler Center, each Comedy Bootcamp graduate will deliver a five minute set to the public audience.

After graduation, alumni have the opportunity to continue to practice and share their talents with others through ASAP’s Veteran Open Mics, partner performances, workshops, and Alumni Mentor Program.

“We’re proud to support ASAP and its noble mission to reintegrate veterans, service members and military families into their local communities through the arts,” said Christine Jensen, Ph.D., CEALH's Director of Health Services Research. “The Comedy Bootcamp gives its veteran participants unique healing benefits and a renewed sense of purpose as they return to normal life, and we’re very excited to be a part of it.”

The Comedy Bootcamp Graduation Show sponsorship is just the latest example of how Riverside CEALH works with the U.S. armed services to support military families.

Riverside CEALH also partners with the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving to offer Operation Family Caregiver (OFC), which provides valuable coaching and support programs to caregivers of newly returning service members and veterans throughout Virginia. OFC is free, confidential and tailored to each individual family. In February, Riverside CEALH announced that it was one of a few OFC partners nationally who received an additional year of funding, working in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Veterans Services.
