Ebtehal Abdelaal, M.D., has practiced medicine in the U.S., Egypt and Saudi Arabia
GLOUCESTER, VA. – Ebtehal Abdelaal, M.D., has joined Riverside Gloucester Family Practice. A family practice physician, she is accepting new patients of all ages. For the past three years, Abdelaal practiced at Riverside Brentwood Medical Center in Newport News as part of the VCU-Riverside Family Medicine Residency program. She received her medical degree in Egypt and practiced medicine there and in Saudi Arabia before coming to the U.S.
Abdelaal brings a wide range of experience, from dermatology to working at a hospital as a hospitalist and emergency department physician. "I believe that can benefit the patients," she said. Abdelaal decided to practice family medicine because of the variety. She could see a whole family, from kids to parents to grandparents. She decided to practice in Gloucester after month-long clinical rotation in the area. "I liked the atmosphere," said Abdelaal, who is married with two children.
Practicing in the U.S. is different than in Egypt. In Egypt, physicians didn't have as much access to diagnostic images and lab work as they do in the U.S. "Here, you have access to everything," she said. Patients are glad to have a female physician in the area who can perform well-woman gynecological exams. "They can do all this in one visit, when they have their annual physical exam," Abdelaal said.
Riverside Gloucester Family Practice is made up of Abdelaal, Donald Tschan Jr., M.D., who also practices family medicine, and David Kemp, M.D., who specializes in internal medicine. The office is at 7560 Hospital Drive, Building B, Suite 101, in Gloucester. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The phone number is (804) 693-4300.
