November, 2013 - The digital mammography services offered at Riverside Shore Medical Center at Metompkin have once again received the highest rating available from the Food and Drug Administration's Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) annual inspection.

Congress enacted MQSA in 1992 to ensure that all women have access to safe and reliable mammography for the detection of breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages.  The adoptino of national standards has helped to optimize radiation doses and has ultimately contributed to improved detection, earlier treatment, and better outcomes for breast cancer patients.

The very thorough inspection evaluates equipment, policies, performance and the credentials and training of physicians and staff.  Surveyors also evaluate the mammography facility's quality indicators including proper image identification, reporting and documentation.

"We're very proud to again be fully certified with no deficiencies," stated Matt Booth, Director of Radiology.  "This confirms what I see from our certified mammography staff every day - their dedication to the safety and good health of our patients."

The digital mammography equipment, staff and processes at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital passed the same inspection earlier this year.
