Newport News, Va-Riverside Health System is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with Christopher Newport University's LifeLong Learning Society in celebration of the Society's 25 th Anniversary.
LLS is a membership organization at CNU for men and women of retirement age seeking opportunities to learn in an environment of sharing and fellowship through lectures, courses, study and discussion groups, lunches, dinners and field trip excursions. An annual LLS membership is $235, and includes access to more than 50 classes offered through the program.
The new partnership provides funds to create a course hosted at Warwick Forest, a speaker series featuring Riverside Health System doctors, and support for special anniversary events including the LLS Silver Anniversary Retro Party. In exchange, residents of Riverside retirement communities receive special benefits, including discounted memberships, transportation services to the Yoder Barn, and also receive live-streaming of LLS's "Monday Afternoon Lectures" from the Ferguson Center and Yoder Barn. In addition, CNU students will benefit from new internship opportunities at Warwick Forest.
Together, RHS and CNU will create opportunities to engage in activities that continue to expand cognitive health and social well-being. "Our vision is to help older adults age in a place of their choosing, which involves caring for a person's social and mental health, not just their physical well-being," said Bob Bryant, Senior Vice President for Riverside's Lifelong Health Division. "This means partnering with great community leaders like CNU to ensure that every adult has access to the things in life that bring them passion -like lifelong learning."
LLS director Jane Sulzberger notes "This new partnership brings our two vibrant communities together in a beautiful way, further strengthening our commitment to provide opportunities for lifelong learning and access to CNU's world-class faculty, activities and events."
To join LLS, call 757-269-4368 or visit lifelonglearning.cnu.edu. The first Warwick Forest LifeLong Learning class is a film series scheduled to begin October 31, 2014, featuring four select films per year with discussions led by CNU Professor Dr. Mark Padilla.
