Internist Azza Abdel Hak, M.D., is joining the medical practice at Riverside Shore Medical Center at Metompkin just north of Parksley.  Abdel Hak received her medical degree from the University of Damascus in the Syrian Arab Republic and completed an internal medicine residency at Lincoln Hospital Medical Center in New York, N.Y.  She is fluent in English and Arabic.

Abdel Hak is familiar with the area because her husband, Dr. Foad Abandeh, joined Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital last year as a hospitalist.  Moving from New York City will be quite a lifestyle change, but it's one that suits Abdel Hak.  "I like the area, quiet and green, and I like the people here," she said.  "I'm excited to be a part of the Riverside family."

Abdel Hak joins Dr. Dante Richardson at the Metompkin practice.  She will begin seeing patients on August 22nd, and looks forward to getting to know her patients and to partnering with them on staying well.

"My focus is on adult patients of all ages – helping them to manage chronic illness such as diabetes, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia and obesity, as well as preventing illness in the first place.  Through education, I'll help patients be in charge of their medical condition so that they can stay healthy or work toward a healthier lifestyle.  This typically minimizes the need for more intensive care or for taking multiple medications," said Abdel Hak.

In addition to appointments with Abdel Hak and Richardson, the Metompkin office also offers orthopedics, obstetrical and gynecological care and mammograms, making access to medical services more convenient for patients in the northern part of the Eastern Shore.
