Administrators Pam Doshier and Don Lundin Receive 2018 Eli Pick Facility Leadership Awards for Accomplishments at The Orchard and Riverside Mathews Convalescent Center
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Pam Doshier and Don Lundin, Administrators at The Orchard and Riverside Mathews Convalescent Center respectively, have received 2018 Eli Pick Facility Leadership Awards from the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA). Having administrators qualify for the prestigious award places The Orchard and Riverside Mathews Convalescent Center among the top 11 percent of Skilled Nursing Facilities nationally.
The award, named in honor of the late visionary ACHCA member Eli Pick, is based on criteria ranging from facility census to state survey results. It recognizes administrators who have led their organizations to a high level of quality based on data collected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Quality indicators, occupancy rates, and three years of survey data are used to identify top performers. The award is built on the premise that facility excellence reflects leadership excellence.
Doshier has been with The Orchard since being appointed Administrator in 2011. She has more than 35 years of experience and background in long-term care as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and holds her Masters in Health Care Administration and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner. In 2016 Doshier was named Assisted Living Administrator of the Year by the Virginia Health Care Association-Virginia Center for Assisted Living.
“We invest a lot of time in quality measures at The Orchard,” said Doshier. “We compare our performance against state and national benchmarks, we study any measurements that are outliers, and we take a focused approach in addressing issues on an ongoing basis – not just when it’s time for a survey.”
Today’s announcement is the latest in series of accolades received by The Orchard, which is located in Warsaw near the city of Tappahannock. Earlier, its skilled nursing care earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Additionally, The Orchard Healthy Living Community is a recipient of the Silver Quality Award presented by the American Health Care Association.
Lundin, a Rhode Island native, earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Rhode Island and his Masters in Health Care Administration from George Washington University. He joined Riverside Health System five years ago and worked at Patriot’s Colony at Williamsburg, the Smithfield Convalescent Center and Warwick Forest before joining the Mathews team in March of 2017 after long-time administrator Guy Shelton retired. Lundin credits Shelton with establishing many of the elements that led to this recognition, including a core group of team members who share a commitment to quality.
“The accomplishments of the Mathews Convalescent Center did not happen overnight,” Lundin said. “We’ve long been recognized for excellent patient satisfaction thanks to a cohesive team and a dedication to providing the best care.”
The Riverside Mathews Convalescent Center, located at Route 198 and Route 611 in Mathews, features comprehensive nursing care, a wide variety of social programs, therapy services and respite care.
