Riverside's King William Medical Center recently welcomed two new care providers to their office in Aylett. Physician Jennifer Stirgwolt and nurse practitioner Sara Majewski joined existing nurse practitioner, Linda Mitchell, to provide comprehensive care for the whole family.
Jennifer Stirgwolt, DO, is experienced with caring for patients in rural settings, most recently with Shenandoah Medical Center in Iowa. She earned her medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency with Altoona Family Physicians. She is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
As an osteopathic family physician, Dr. Stirgwolt feels strongly that working with all ages helps her to better understand her patients and work with them across all stages of life. "I consider it a privilege to care for people in what can be the best and worst moments of their lives."
She also sees the physician role as one of "working alongside patients with the goals of the whole person in mind. We need to be optimizing their health instead of just treating their disease. As certified Patient Centered Medical Homes, Riverside's family practices make it a priority to work with patients to create a personalized health care plan. That aligned with my goals as a physician."
As an osteopathic physician, Dr. Stirgwolt also performs what is called osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT). This involves using the hands to move muscles and joints by stretching or applying gentle pressure to diagnose and treat illness or injury. "It's another tool that I would like to show my patients how to use in order to help them with the goal of optimal health."
Sara Majewski, FNP, earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University and her Master of Science in Nursing from Graceland University in Independence, Missouri. She is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a member of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners.
Majewski chose to specialize in family medicine because she "loves working with all age groups" and "loves the ability to see a baby for one visit and then a 50 year old at the next appointment. I want to help all my patients live healthy, productive lives. I'm excited about working with Riverside because of their breadth of services for all stages of life."
She also has personal experience to help patients make healthy choices. "I am a diabetic and have been for 20 years. When I speak to patients about their life choices and health it is coming from experience both in education but more importantly the day-to-day experience of living with a chronic disease."All providers at King William Medical Center are welcoming new patients. Extended and weekend hours will soon be available. To make an appointment, call 804-769-1245. The practice is located at 4917 Richmond Tappahannock Highway in the Central Crossing Shopping Plaza in Aylett.
