Toiya Sosa as its Chief Diversity Officer

Toiya Sosa, Riverside’s Chief Diversity Officer, was recently named to a list of 86 Hospital and Health System Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) officers to know as compiled by Beckers Hospital Review. The DEI officers featured on the list are responsible for tackling health disparities, fostering inclusive workforce cultures, instituting business resource groups, providing educational training sessions and more.

“I am honored to be named on the Becker Hospital Review list of DEI leaders to know,” says Toiya Sosa, Chief Diversity Officer at Riverside Health System. “DEI is important in every workplace, but particularly in health care. We aim to create and foster a healthy and safe environment for our teams to live the mission — to care for others as we care for those we love.”

Hospitals and health systems that commit to an organizational culture of diversity, equity and inclusion are creating safer and more engaging environments for patients, providers and the communities they serve. The diversity, equity and inclusion officers at the helm of these hospitals and health systems are paving the way for a more equitable future.

Ms. Sosa joined the Riverside team in 2021 and brought 22 years of experience working with diverse organizations including the Urban League, American Heart Association, United Way, NAACP, UNCF, and YWCA. In addition to her role at Riverside, she serves on the board of the Urban League of Hampton Roads, Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities Peninsula Chapter and she is Vice-Chair of the United Way’s African American Leadership Society. Sosa is also a member of the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE).
