Riverside Health is proud to share continued recognition in providing world-class cancer care in Eastern Virginia. As part of an ongoing commitment to delivering the highest quality, patient centered cancer care, the Riverside Cancer Care Network has recently earned re-accreditation from the American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) Commission on Cancer as an integrated network cancer program (INCP). In addition, Riverside has achieved re-accreditation of its breast program by the American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). Both accreditations are quality initiatives administered by the ACS.
“Achieving these accreditations reflects our unwavering commitment to partner with every patient who places their trust in us during their fight against cancer,” said Kathy Koehl, PharmD, Associate Vice President of Riverside Cancer Care Network, Clinical Trials and Research. “Our team strives to provide compassionate, coordinated and tailored care that supports each of our patients and their loved ones during their cancer journey.”
Accreditations through the ACS signifies that a cancer program meets rigorous, evidence-based standards for quality. Programs are evaluated on a wide range of criteria that include clinical outcomes, patient safety processes, multidisciplinary collaboration, access to clinical trials, community outreach and the availability of comprehensive support services such as patient navigation and survivorship planning.
Riverside Cancer Care Network offers patients the full spectrum of cancer care from screening and diagnosis through treatment, rehabilitation and long-term survivorship. Care is provided by multidisciplinary teams that include medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, oncology nurse navigators and other specialists who collaborate to ensure each patient receives an individualized plan grounded in the latest clinical research.
“From early detection to treatment, survivorship and follow-up, these recognitions reinforce the depth and breadth of our cancer-care offerings,” said Dr. Aaron Chevinsky, Oncology Service Line Chief and Medical Director for the Riverside Cancer Care Network. “As our community’s needs evolve, so do we. Riverside Cancer Care Network remains steadfast in our mission to bring advanced care where our patients live, work and heal.”
These accreditations demonstrate Riverside’s commitment to investments in technology, clinical expertise and patient centered services in support of expanding access to high-quality cancer care close to home. This approach reduces barriers for patients and families and fosters partnerships that improve health outcomes throughout the region.
