Dean and Jackie Spangler
Growing up in the Hilton area and graduating from Warwick High School, we've called the Virginia Peninsula 'home' for most of our lives. We both retired from the City of Hampton, Dean as the Superintendent of Roads Maintenance and Jackie as a school principal. After 54 years together and traveling to more countries than we can count, we truly enjoy our busy but carefree lives. We were looking for a retirement community that enhanced our lifestyle rather than stifled it. And that's what we found at Warwick Forest.
To us, retirement means spending more time pursuing our passions. Jackie loves volunteering at historical sites, participating in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and digging into genealogical research, and if you want to find Dean, you should start your search at the many golf courses in the area. We located the perfect spot to mount Dean's five hole in one golf balls in our new home.
Warwick Forest is close to shopping, the opera and symphony, and Christopher Newport University, which offers many educational opportunities. Finding a church was very important to us; we actually met in a Sunday School class when we were five years old! After just a couple of weeks, we're thrilled to have found a church home. Staying here on the Peninsula allows us to stay close to our daughter and her family. In a few years, we'll be able to attend our grandson's graduation from Virginia Tech and our granddaughter's graduation from law school at Regent University.
Since we don't have to worry about maintenance anymore, we have even more time for our hobbies, including all the exciting programs right here on campus. In addition to sharing the fantastic meals with our new friends, we're excited about getting involved in the many committees and trying out the aquatics programs. The activities are limitless.
As we began looking for a retirement community, we were both drawn to different aspects of Warwick Forest. Jackie felt instantly welcomed by everyone and appreciated the warm, inviting atmosphere. Dean wanted to crunch the numbers and found that Warwick Forest offered the most bang for your buck of any LifeCare community in the area. We were both sold. We even got approval from Salsa, our dog, since he was welcome, too.
The staff members at Warwick Forest have been so accommodating. Everyone goes above and beyond our expectations to create a lifestyle that helps you make the most out of your retirement, which is exactly what we want to do.
