"For the first time, being and feeling healthy is important to me."
My battle with weight goes back to the beginning of time. I've dealt with chronic sprained ankles and decreased mobility. When my orthopaedic surgeon suggested I needed ankle replacement surgery, I knew it was time to get serious.
With my daughter, Jennifer, back home, I had the extra push I needed. We joined Riverside's Medical Weight Loss Program and I've never looked back! The center's staff has always been genuinely supportive and validates both the good and bad days along the way. They completely understand when my visits turn into a confessional, and they are always available to listen and encourage me.
I am a very experienced dieter. This is the first program I've been able to stick to for the long haul. Meeting with the nutritionist helped us nearly eliminate processed foods from our diet and find the healthy foods that worked for us. I'm down 80 pounds, and I finally realized that feeling healthy is important to me.
On a recent trip to London, I was able to walk four miles each day and seven miles one day. My ankles have improved to the point where I no longer need an anti-inflammatory. My latest accomplishment was completing every obstacle in a mud run with Jennifer and a few of my coworkers, including a 20 foot rope ladder. I never would have thought that was possible before this journey. Next on my list is to hit the slopes for the first time in years!
It's true that there's no magic pill, but with the support of family and friends and tools like maintaining a food journal and sticking to an exercise plan, you CAN be successful!
