Riverside is the only healthcare facility on the Peninsula offering the daVinci Surgical System. Using the state-of-the-art daVinci, your urologist is able to perform more precise, less invasive, robotic-assisted surgeries.
daVinci robotic surgery offers many advantages over traditional surgery
How daVinci robotic surgery works
Working with a support team, the surgeon sits at the da Vinci robotic system console. He or she can view the surgical area on a video monitor while operating master controls. EndowristTM technology on the robotic arm mimics the normal surgical motions of the human hand. The surgeon's hand, wrist, and finger movements are seamlessly translated with extraordinary control and range of motion via robotic arms to very small surgical instruments positioned inside the patient. These robotic arms are so small that the surgery can be performed in spaces where the human hand would not fit.
During this time, the camera on one of the robotic arms and the robotic system's 3-D visualization provide a view of the surgical field that is brighter, sharper and more magnified than images available through the human eye.
The daVinci Robotic Surgery System has been used successfully in thousands of surgeries. The system has been effective in the treatment of complex tumors and masses suspected to be cancer, the staging of reproductive tract malignancies and for the removal of lymph nodes. As effective as the daVinci is, the system is not the right tool for every patient. If you are facing surgery, the staff at the Riverside Cancer Care Center and your doctor can help you determine if this alternative procedure is right for your situation.
