Diseases and Conditions

Shoulder and arm pain can have many causes. Your type of pain can provide clues to the condition causing the pain.

You may be experiencing:

  • Acute or severe pain that comes on suddenly usually as the result of an injury or trauma
  • Chronic shoulder or elbow pain with arthritis or overuse as the most common causes.

In some cases, joint pain is made worse by the fact that a person will avoid using a painful joint, weakening the muscles and making the joint even more difficult to move.

Shoulder injuries
If you have injured your shoulder, you should see a doctor right away. The shoulder is a complex joint and a delay in treatment can make your injury more difficult to treat and slow your recovery.

Elbow injuries
Elbow pain is often caused by the way you use your arm and elbow especially in sports such as golf and tennis.
