What is an orthopaedic surgeon?

A Riverside orthopaedic surgeon is a medical doctor with extensive training in the proper diagnosis and treatment of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. This complex system combines the muscular and the skeletal systems to give your body form, stability and movement. It includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves.

Riverside orthopaedic surgeons have completed up to 14 years of formal education.

  • Undergraduate school at a college or university: Four years
  • Medical school: Four years
  • Study in orthopedic residency at a major medical center: Five years
  • One optional year of specialized education
Our orthopaedic surgeons are board certified meaning that they passed both oral and written examinations given by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Each year, Riverside physicians continue to stay up to date in current orthopaedic knowledge and skills by continuing their medical education through the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and other institutions.
