Additional Information

Emergency Cardiac Care
Riverside’s new Emergency/Trauma Center opened in 2004. In conjunction with the cardiology staff the emergency team has developed an innovative program for the emergency care and treatment of chest pain and heart attack.

The STEMI Alert program, offered in conjunction with area fire and rescue departments, allows the Riverside team to rapidly mobilize to provide emergency angioplasty and stent treatment to treat heart attacks. This program has reduced the treatment times in these emergencies.

Clinical Cardiology Research
Riverside cardiologists participate in many clinical protocols to develop new treatments for cardiac disease. The Cardiology Research unit in conjunction with our cardiologist investigators is responsible for the safe and accurate operation of these beneficial programs.

Riverside is currently participating in several trials including emergency treatment of heart attack, early diagnosis of heart disease in diabetic patients, and comparisons of different types of coronary artery stents.

Mended Hearts
The Mended Hearts Chapter 113 is a volunteer group that is part of the national Mended Hearts organization and is part of the American Heart Association. The local Mended Hearts group is composed of cardiac patients and their families. This dedicated group of individuals provides on-going support for cardiac patients through personal visits and educational programs. The group meets monthly at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Home Health
Riverside home health services provide follow up care in support of cardiac patients and their families including home visits and a unique home monitoring system that allows patients the opportunity to record and send vital signs and other clinical data to a review station staffed by registered nurses.

Referral System
Primary care physicians may make direct referrals to any Riverside specialist who will start the process and coordinate the admission or transfer of patients from other facilities. Referring physicians may contact the specialist of their choice or contact the specialist on call by calling (757) 594-2000.

Family Amenities
Riverside has made arrangements with local hotels to provide complimentary and reduce rate accommodations for the families of cardiac patients who must travel from outside the area. Please contact Riverside Regional Medical Center Administration at (757) 594-4012 for more information.
